Popularity Of LCD Television
Article by Nimmi
Television market is very vibrant now, having survived the onslaught of the worst global economic slowdown in the recent past. The conventional cathode ray tube television is now obsolete. Flat panel television is the rage now. Even though the evolving technology has yielded more innovative internet television, the same is very expensive. For people who look at television as a medium for entertainment, popular models of LCD or Plasma are the favourite choice. These categories of televisions are affordable too. Whether the liquid crystal display or plasma is the best option is a contentious issue. There are people who maintain that plasma is the cheaper option when it comes to large size television. But the positive aspects of LCD are enumerated by those who favour it. Market is a true indicator of the popular appeal of any product. LCD television is reported to have about 50 percent share of the global television market, which is a true indicator of the ground reality.
There are solid reasons for majority of shoppers to choose LCD instead of other categories of television. The first and foremost reason for choosing LCD is that it is energy efficient than others. The issue is more relevant now when the cost of energy is soaring up throughout the world. Further energy conservation is gaining importance universally. Many brands of LCD television come with innovative natural light technology which eliminates screen burns completely. Automatic adjustment of screen brightness to suit the ambient lighting and Dolby technology which offers dynamic balancing of sound system while maintaining bass and treble, are among the characteristics featured in some models. Bright colours and deeper blacks contribute to superb viewing experience to the consumers. Uniformity of screen luminance adds comfort to the eyes. Improved screen resolution to offer full 1080p high definition display is a unique characteristic of modern LCD. Response time of 2ms and dynamic contrast ratio of 50,000:1 are features that have enhanced the quality of performance. Enhanced frame rate of 120Hz and 170 degrees viewing angles are other features that made modern LCD an ideal television.
Another version of LCD television available in the market is one with LED backlighting. The light emitting diode has replaced the conventional fluorescent backlighting. This new technology could improve the energy efficiency by 50 percent than the earlier model. The new backlighting could enhance the contrast ratio to 1,000,000:1 which will substantially improve the performance. Periodical up gradation of technology has contributed to the popular appeal of the LCD television. Television market is functioning in a highly competitive environment and it is imperative that the products should enhance the quality on one side and should reduce the prices on the other. LCD television manufacturers have achieved these two perquisites.

There are a lot of amazing TVs out there and prices just keep getting better, which makes it even more disappointing that LG kind of blow it with this one. -Hi, I'm CNET senior editor David Katzmaier and this is the LG 42LK450. This is a 42-inch LCD TV …

Perfect for a dorm room,
I bought this tv from my local Wal-Mart at college. I had a 19 inch in my dorm room before that was a combination dell monitor/tv. I wanted to use that one as a dedicated dual monitor for my laptop, so I looked at new tvs. I wanted something with full 1080p to use with my blu ray player and the digital channels I get at school. I liked this vizio for the price and for the features. It has enough inputs for my needs, I use my dvd player with composite (the component out on my dvd player doesn’t work), wii with component, and I have an hdmi cable to hook up my laptop to it (my laptop is my blu ray player). The picture quality is excellent on high def channels and pretty darn good on standard def channels.
The biggest issues I’ve had with it so far is that the remote isn’t super responsive. I have to press the buttons pretty hard to get the volume/channels to change. The sound gets plenty loud enough, but it increments from 1 to 100, so you have to change the volume by about 5 levels before you notice an appreciable difference in level. It would be much better if the sound incremented from 1 to 20 or something.
Overall though, those issues aren’t anything I can’t live with. My roommate and I pretty much exclusively watch USA and don’t change the volume that often, so the remote isn’t a big issue. If the remote is an issue for you, I would recommend a cheap universal remote.
As far as looks go, this is a slick tv. It’s ridiculously thin and looks awesome! Everyone who comes in my room comments about how thin it is. I would very much recommend this tv for people looking for a small tv for dorm rooms or in an office. It doesn’t take up much space and has a nice picture.

|WOW! ”””’ Amazing!,
I purchased this tv to bring with me to college, and I must say that I am extremely happy with this purchase! The screen is pretty vibrant and beautiful. The TV itself is aesthetically pleasing as well, being very stylish with the bottom speakers. It’s also so incredibly thin!
The TV: 22in LED LCD HDTV, for $200 had me sold! There is great value with this television. I use it as a second monitor via HDMI cables, play computer games with it, and have plugged console games into it as well, and everything looks as crisp and nice as other TVs.
The volume, channel, etc buttons are on the right side of the tv, and they work well and are unintrusive.
However, I admit that the speakers are sub-par to other televisions. Although you shouldn’t expect bose quality sound performance, the quality of the speakers are comparable to decent laptop speakers, but louder of course. However, this could easily be remedied by plugging in a cheap $20 pair of external speakers if sound quality is of any importance to you.
I’ve also noticed is that when viewed from below, the screen becomes somewhat dark! So customers who wish to mount this tv high should be warned! However, the view from above, and sides are somewhat fine.
Aside from the sound quality and slight view darkening, there aren’t many gripes that I have with this TV. The value is astonishing, and it just looks great in general. The TV comes in a box with a handle, so it doubles as a carrying case. Included is also a remote, which functions fine and looks pretty cool, as well as a microfiber[?] cloth to wipe your screen with.
All in all, I am sincerely satisfied!
